Neptune Frost is an Afrofuturist sci-fi musical set between an otherworldly techno-scrapheap in Burundi and a futuristic Rwandan coltan mine. It follows the relationship between Neptune, an intersex runaway, and Matalusa, an escaped coltan miner. Together they become the leaders of an anti-capitalist collective who hack the system to stage a revolt against the authoritarian regime. Directed by actor-playwright Anisia Uzeyman and poet-musician Saul Williams, the film moves through fluorescent dream sequences brimming with glitchy cyberpunk characters, as it explores themes of economic inequality, political enforcement and capitalism, and the role of technology as both oppressor and liberator.

Neptune Frost has been selected by Libita Sibungu. Libita is a multidisciplinary artist who draws on her British-Namibian-Cornish heritage to make work that explores entangled personal histories and collective colonial legacies inscribed in the body and land. Her solo exhibition, ZED LOVE, is currently open at The Exchange in Penzance, and will close on 31 October 2026.
