Award-winning writers Penelope Shuttle and Rachael Allen will be at CAST for an evening of poetry.
Penelope Shuttle is a poet and novelist who has made her home in Cornwall since 1970, with the county’s mercurial weather and rich history providing continuing sources of inspiration. Shuttle is an Honorary Trustee for the Causley Trust and a founding member of the Falmouth Poetry Group. Ten collections of Shuttle’s poetry have been published, the most recent of which is History of the Child (published by Bloodaxe in 2026), in which she explores childhood, memory and imagination.
Rachael Allen is the author of Kingdomland (2019) and God Complex (2024), both published by Faber. Shewas born in Cornwall and grew up here before studying English Literature at Goldsmiths College. She worked for a decade at the literary quarterly Granta Magazine and is now an editor for Fitzcarraldo Editions. She teaches Creative Writing at Queen Mary, University of London.
This screening is one of the events CAST is hosting as part of Wordplay for Winter – a celebration of the written, spoken and performed word, taking place in Helston from 19 November to 4 December.
