Build with wood or clay. Make a tiny print, a big brush or a painting on a giant canvas.
Our talented artist team will show you how to engrave a tiny plate and print a label for a matchbox museum, or how to use a hammer and nails to make something special from wood. Artisan brush maker Ellie Birkhead will share her skills in making an assortment of big brushes, and CAST studio artist Ben Sanderson will lead a group painting on a giant floor canvas. Artists Charlie Duck and Sarah Fassnidge will lead making with clay.
Different activities are on offer at each CAST-Off session over the summer. Saturday sessions will be held at the Walled Garden, Penrose, from 29 July to 19 August, and Wednesday sessions will be held at Coronation Gardens in Helston from 2 to 16 August. The final session will take place on Wednesday 23 August at Gunwalloe Beach.
All activities are free. Just drop-in, no booking required. Donations welcome.
Participants of all ages are welcome. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
We won’t be put off by a bit of drizzle and hope you won’t either, but check on the day in case of extreme weather or last-minute changes.
Parking:
We recommend parking at the free Fairground car park in Helston and making your way along the CAST-Off trail to the Walled Garden. This route is tarmac all the way, so well suited to pushchairs, scooters, and bikes. Please be aware the route is 2.4km / 1.5 miles, with an approximate walk time of 45 minutes.
For those who need to get a little closer by car, there is a small National Trust car park, approximately 1km / 0.6 miles from the Walled Garden along the official paths.
Bus:
It is a 10 minute bus journey from Helston to Penrose on the U4, which runs hourly between Falmouth and Penzance. We recommend stopping at Penrose Hill bus stop, from which it is approximately a 5 minute walk to the Walled Garden.
CAST-Off is made possible by the generous support of the Garcia Family Foundation, Helston Town Council, Little Parc Owles Trust and Cornwall Council.
