Archival films exploring different customs from around the region will be shown alongside a recent documentary about the continuing traditions of Flora Day including the Hal an Tow.
As preparations get underway for Helston’s Flora Day celebrations on Saturday 7 May, we are delighted that Hal an Tow Crier Jack Morrison has selected a programme of short films exploring some of the many May Day and spring celebrations unique to communities in Cornwall with reference to a few further afield.
Jack will introduce the programme on Thursday evening, a slightly shorter programme, presented without any introduction, will play in the space on Friday evening, beginning at 6pm and 7pm. The Friday evening film screenings are free and there is no need to book, just drop in. Refreshments will be available from the Café until 8pm on Friday, please book if you would like supper.
Inside the Hal an Tow is an independent production for Cornish Stuff by Hannah Wakely and Charlotte Agnew, who were 3rd year TV & Media students of Falmouth University when the film was made.
Permissions to show the archive films have kindly been granted by the English Folk Dance and Song Society.
