See the world through a colourful new lens using specially made kaleidoscopes. Learn how to polish Serpentine into a shiny pendant. Paint your own plants and creatures and add them to a giant garden landscape frieze, and mould creatures out of clay to inhabit the garden. Build your own waterways and boats to float along them. Listen to the garden and recreate the sounds in Plasticine.

Different activities are on offer at each CAST-Off session over the summer. Sessions will take place on Saturdays from 27 July to 24 August in the walled garden at National Trust Penrose, what 3 words location: steepest.daydreams.boasted

All the activities are free and offered on a drop-in basis, no booking required.

Donations to support this much-loved programme and enable it to keep running are always very welcome.

Participants of all ages are welcome. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

We won’t be put off by a bit of drizzle and hope you won’t either, but check our social media on the day in case of extreme weather or last-minute changes.

Parking:

We recommend parking at the free Fairground car park in Helston and making your way along the footpaths to the Walled Garden. This route is tarmac all the way, so well suited to pushchairs, scooters, and bikes. Please be aware the route is 2.4km / 1.5 miles, with an approximate walk time of 45 minutes.

For those who need to get a little closer by car, there is a small National Trust car park, approximately 1km / 0.6 miles from the Walled Garden along the official paths.

Bus:

It is a 10 minute bus journey from Helston to Penrose on the U4, which runs hourly between Falmouth and Penzance. We recommend stopping at Penrose Hill bus stop, from which it is approximately a 10 minute walk to the Walled Garden.

CAST-Off 2024 is part-funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, with generous support from Little Parc Owles Trust and the Garcia Family Foundation.
