This one-day collaborative drawing workshop is part of Gemma Anderson’s ongoing project the Cornwall Morphology and Drawing Centre (CMADC). Collaborating with mineralogist Courtenay Smale, this workshop will explore the role of crystal models as teaching aids and enquire into what may have been lost with their dismissal in favour of computer modelling.
The workshop will involve handling, rotating and drawing three-dimensional wooden crystal models to explore the six crystal systems (Cubic, Tetragonal, Orthorhombic, Monoclinic, Triclinic, Hexagonal), and to recognise examples of these basic forms in macro and micro minerals and specimens. At all stages of the process drawing will be used to guide and enhance understanding of the forms.
Materials will be provided, but please bring paper and pencils if possible. Previous drawing experience is helpful but not essential. CAST Café will offer a simple and delicious lunch.
