CAST is pleased to host a programme of artists’ films curated by artist Patricia Domínguez and organised by the Eden Project in association with their current exhibition Super Natural.
The programme comprises three works from three different space-times in South America, each of which has emerged through a process of experimental learning, resonance and thinking between artists, indigenous teachers and the forest: Dreaming Technologies (2021) by French-Colombian collective NOMASMETAFORAS; Forest Mind (2021) by Swiss artist and author Ursula Biemann; and Patricia Domínguez’s own work Matrix Vegetal (2021-22). The screenings will be introduced by Eden Project curators Misha Curson and Hannah Hooks and will include a pre-recorded interview with Patricia Domínguez, elaborating on her choices for the evening.

Dreaming Technologies (2021) highlights the abuse of land and the systemic exploitation of human resources in settler colonial countries, tracing the connection between mineral extraction and the colonial exploitation of bodies for the production of high-technology Western objects.
NOMASMETAFORAS is a French-Colombian collective of contemporary art and experimental thought integrated by visual artist Julian Dupont (b. 1985, Columbia) and philosopher Clara Melniczuk (b. 1991, France). The collective undertakes philosophical enquiry through performative installations, sculpture and poetic lectures, as well as research-creation workshops exploring post-colonial and decolonial studies, the relationship between dreams and medicinal plants, and ancestral practices.
Forest Mind (2021) unites diverse strands of knowledge on the metaphysics of plants and plant-human relationships. Set in the Amazonian forests of Colombia, the work draws on scientific as well as shamanic perspectives of engaging with the world, taking an ecocentric worldview in searching for the intelligence of nature.
Ursula Biemann (b.1955, Zurich) is an artist, author and video essayist. Her artistic practice is strongly research-oriented and involves fieldwork in remote locations from Greenland to Amazonia, where she investigates climate change and the ecologies of oil, ice, forests, and water.
Matrix Vegetal (2021/22) is an enquiry into experimental ethnobotany, South American quantum thinking, dream fiction and organic connection technologies, which aims to expand perceptions of the vegetal and spiritual worlds.
Patricia Domínguez (b.1984, Santiago de Chile) is an artist, educator and current director of the ethnobotanical platform Studio Vegetalista. Bringing together experimental research on ethnobotany, healing practices and the corporatisation of wellbeing, her practice focuses on challenging increasingly globalised corporate cosmologies by tracing the precarious relationships between species that are contextualised by the current digitisation of the living.
