Stephen and Walter Polglase, courtesy Stephen Polgalse

Stephen Polglase’s family have mined around Tregonning and Godolphin hills in West Cornwall since the sixteenth century. They have been successive mine captains at Great Work Mine, the mine situated on the metal rich saddle of land between the two hills.

In 1977 Stephen’s father, Walter Polglase, was approached to make a documentary about reopening old mine workings for tin and tungsten, which at that time were commanding a high price. The resulting film follows Stephen and Walter’s sometimes erratic progress in the hunt for minerals.

Forty years on, CAST Café Geographic will screen the film again. Following the screening, Stephen will talk about some of the pitfalls and amusing incidents that took place during the making of the film.

CAST Café supper will be served beforehand from 6.30pm. Something hot and something sweet for £6.50.
