A wartime Scottish island faces a dire whisky shortage, which is driving the locals to distraction – that is until a shipwreck brings a massive cargo of Scotch within close reach. The islanders must find a way to rescue the booty before the ship sinks, meanwhile thwarting the authorities who are trying to recover it. This classic Ealing comedy is based on the novel by Compton Mackenzie who lived for a while in Toy Cottage, Gunwalloe.

Kate Sinclair is an award-winning film producer and theatre director who has specialised in finding and developing books to turn into films and TV  including Slumdog Millionaire, Salmon Fishing in the Yemen and The Miniaturist. In 2024 she founded the Tadeusz Bradecki Prize and Tadeusz Bradecki Tiny Literary Gathering – a micro festival celebrating the international theatre director, actor and writer – which takes place in Gunwalloe.
