An evening of live poetry and fiction readings, presented by poet Rachael Allen and novelist Patrick Langley, both of whom will read from their recent work.
Rachael Allen’s first full collection of poems, Kingdomland, was published by Faber in 2019. References from her childhood in Cornwall cohabit with fictions, unexplained violences, sex, sorcery and shifting landscapes.
Patrick Langley’s first novel, Arkady (2018), a striking portrait of the precarity of modern urban living, follows two brothers searching for the Red City and its promise of a radical new way of life.
Rachael Allen was born in Cornwall in 1989. She is the poetry editor for Granta, co-editor of the poetry anthology series Clinic and of online journal tender. She has received a Northern Writers’ Award and was made a Faber New Poet in 2014.
Patrick Langley writes for frieze, art-agenda, Art Review, Rhizome and other publications. He is also a contributing editor at The White Review. His debut novel, Arkady, published by Fitzcarraldo, received glowing reviews in both the Guardian and the New Statesman.
