Following the overwhelming popularity of the first year’s activities, CAST-Off returned in summer 2021. Well over a thousand children took part in CAST-Off activities in August 2021. The programme of artist-led workshops in the walled garden at National Trust Penrose included pigment and dye making, serpentine polishing, pinch pottery, clay modelling, bug making, wood construction, kite making, cyanotype printing, paper making, wild weaving and granite bashing.

In a small wood near the Bulwark estate impressive dens were built, bug hotels constructed and clay pots created. It was wonderful to see so many families enjoying being creative together and the imaginative responses in children’s sketchbooks.

CAST’s learning specialist Lucy Grant designed a beautiful new activity map, with lots of things for children to do and discover in their own time. The map included a number of challenges and tasks, with small prizes for children who completed them.

The CAST-Off programme was developed with support from the Garcia Family Foundation and received generous assistance from Helston Town Council, Little Parc Owles Trust, FEAST and Falmouth University.
