CAST organised two creative stations for Bangers & Mash-Up festival held at United Downs from 15 to 17 October 2021.
Fine Art and Fashion students from Falmouth University participated in a whirlwind workshop led by fashion designers/artists Harry Evans and Robert George Sanders on the first day of the festival. Working with clothes and materials donated to the festival by recycling centres across Cornwall, the students collaborated to produce and model extravagant ‘looks’, including this imperial presence modelled by third year art student Francisco de Freitas Rodrigues. On the following days, Robert and Harry transformed their dome tent base into an ever-evolving installation and parade.
Harry has a background in womenswear and knitwear and has worked for brands Celine, Burberry, Acne, Charlotte Knowles, Ashish and Meadham Kirchhoff. Robert is an illustrator and florist with a background in menswear and has worked with Craig Green and set designer David Curtis Ring. Their work has featured in Vogue and iD and is part of a developing documentary with Clare Richards direction.
On Saturday and Sunday members of the team responsible for this summer’s CAST-Off programme hosted their own ‘Transformation Station’, offering free creative making sessions for children and young people. The team, led by Vicky Wiltshire, supported children to make exquisite paper millinery constructions from tubes, swags of brown paper, wax paper toile, tapering tissue and ruffled crepe.
