After the success of CAST-Off in 2020 and 2021, a third edition of this hugely popular programme took place in 2022 between 30 July and 20 August. We also developed CAST-Away, a series of four events on the Lizard peninsula, which took creative activities directly to local villages and communities between 3 and 24 August.

In 2022 there were four days of CAST-Off activities in the walled garden at National Trust Penrose. Each provided a range of creative activities including brick-making, brush-making, clay construction, cyanotypes, felt pebble pouches, pine-cone people, serpentine polishing, stone carving, pigment painting, wildflower crowns and wood construction. 1,387 people took part in CAST-Off 2022, and 1,250 took part in CAST-Away.

CAST’s learning specialist Lucy Grant designed a beautiful new activity map, encouraging families to explore the natural environments between Helston and Loe Bar and suggesting lots of things for children to do and discover in their own time.

CAST-Off and CAST-Away were made possible by the generous support of The National Lottery Community Fund, FEAST, the Garcia Family Foundation and Helston Town Council.

We should especially like to thank the Garcia Family Foundation, which enabled us to initiate the CAST-Off programme during the pandemic and has made it possible for us to continue the programme since that time.
