CAST offers a day of Think and Make activity each half-term and during the Christmas and Easter holidays. Devised by artist and learning specialist Lucy Grant, each workshop has a different focus, often linked to the seasons.
Most Think and Make sessions take place in CAST’s ground floor learning studio, with high quality art materials and specialist equipment provided. The black box screening space is also often used as an immersive space for creative play – a stage for fancy dress and shadow puppets, a dark space in which to experiment with old technologies such as slide and overhead projectors, or a studio for simple stop-frame animation techniques. Clay Trap, the ceramic studio based at CAST, contributes to sessions involving clay.
Here is a small selection of feedback from parents and guardians:
‘Absolutely lovely workshop! We loved the immersive experience in the black box – the attention to detail and magical feel. Thank you!’
‘There are so many options and materials to choose from, so kids (and adults) can explore different ways to create. The staff are friendly and encouraging, making a calm atmosphere. We love that there are always different activities.’
‘The session had great facilitators and very creative ideas that kept my daughter immersed for a long time. I enjoyed the warm, informal environment – I wouldn’t change a thing!’

‘We loved the whole thing – the kids adored dressing up and shadow puppets and making houses. It was all brilliant!’
‘The session was very relaxed, with a great range of resources available to use. The staff were very welcoming and encouraging – the girls (4 + 2) were straight away at ease and enjoying themselves.’
